A few weeks ago Charlotte needed a bag to take somewhere and of course couldn't find any of the bags I have made for her so I grabbed one from my trusty for sale stash (a left over from the Pink Ribbon market that I hadn't had time to list yet) and it turned out to be the perfect across the body kid size tote. So of course and idea popped into my head to make them for this market Ingrid and I are going to have a stall at.
So here are the first two. I will be giving one of these away but first you have to answer a couple of questions for me (no easy ride on this giveaway).
2. Does anyone have a good name for these bags. Kids tote sounds too boring. You don't have to answer this question but if you do you get an extra entry.
Of course these bags are designed for kids but there is no reason they couldn't be used by an adult they just probably wouldn't go across your body (ok they won't go across mine anyway).
I won't be back online until Sunday so you have until then to enter (I am happy to post it internationally as well) so come out of lurkdom and tell me what you think.
Don't tell anyone but Amy Butler is coming I just got my ticket (and 1 for you too Ingrid)

I think you must be in Australia so it is hard for me to say what you should charge for your bags. here in the U.S., one might pay $5 to $7 in our area (Midwest) for bags similar to what you pictured. Your bags are very nicely made. I can tell from the picture. I think a good name for them might be "Hop-a-longs" as I am thinking of things Australian and kangaroos came to mind. A kangeroo has a built in bag for the baby to ride along in so these kid totes can be the bag that kiddies carry the favorite dolly, book or toy around in! :-) Love the cowboy print one!
I'm a sucker for bags (BTW love love love that Dick and Jane one!!!)
I think I'd probably pay between $15 and $30 for one of these :)
As for a name - I'm hopeless with names, maybe a kiddie carry-all (mind you love Sandi's Hopalongs ;)
I'm terrible with pricing and I'm sure I've got mine all wrong! I'll take a stab and say $15-22 in Australia. they seem like upmarket kids bags to me.
As for a name, I'll go with Book Buddy.
Well done, Cass.
love the bags cass, enjoy your break:) $25-40 i reakon.BTW how did you manage to get your ticket, is the link working now?
ARGHHH, Car beat me to it! I think Kiddy-carry-all is a great name!
I think you could easily charge $25-$30.
And YAY for the AB tickets! Every time I shorten it to AB I think she is a bloodtype, LOL. Maybe fabrics addicts do have their own bloodtype, who knows. Okay I am going now, I am rambling from too much time in the sun.
$18 - $22 a bag, no idea on names, maybe The Andy? lol. As for Amy Butler, I am still pfftt she is not coming to Perth!!
oh, and I really LOVE the 1st bag. Are you taking orders?
How about.....Mothers Savior (so she doesn't have to carry everything)
Sleepover bags - kids adore sleepovers, adventure bags... so on...
As for pricing I totally and unequivocaly suck at it so will not even make a suggestion.
Oh this is not and entry - my kids are HUGE but I think the bag is adorable.
Hmmm, I wondered about commenting here as I am a direct competitor!! LOL But hey, I'm not the only one..
Kids carry sacks
Pack sacks
Float your tote
Kids case
LOL It's late and I've still got knitting to do!!!
As for price... perhaps around $15 - $30.
I'm not in the running for the bag either. Wouldn't be fair!
No comp entry needed here, I don't think the Smurf is up to carrying a bag yet! I just wanted to say how cool it is you and Ingrid are having a stall at the mathilda's market! I'll have to remember to pop along!
PS 20 bucks minimum
I would think $29... ish!
They look great.
Cathy from pink chalk studio has done some great posts about costing goods & it would be worth a look so you don't sell yourself short!

I think here in the deep south you could get between $10-$20 dollars for them. People in my small town do not seem to want to pay what something is really worth. They don't think about the time it takes to make something. Here the kids might call them boogie bags.
Have a Blessed Day,
Diane
Ekkk, those bags are so cute. I love the dick and jane bag. I can see my child taking that to school in 5 years time :) In canada you would prob. get between 15-25 buckaroos for your bags. As for a name I was never very good at figuring out what something should be called. What about a Treasure Tote.....
They're great!
I don't think those prints are particularly cheap, so I'd be expecting to pay $20 at a minimum.
As for a name, maybe Tot Tote?
I think you could easily charge between $20 and $25 US dollars. I live in Philadelphia so our mark-up is usually higher than some other areas of the country. I think you have some great name suggestions... the only thing I can come up with is Trailblazer Tote. Happy sewing!
Hi - I've just been having a play on a currency converter website and I reckon between 20 and 30 Australian dollars. The bags are fab but I'm struggling to come up with a good name! How about "Titchy-Totes"? Lucy x
Hi, I don't know how my US dollars compare with yours, but I think that here in the states, I think that between 20-25 dollars seems like a reasonable price, especially as they are a handcrafted item, not mass produced and therefore unique. I think of these as tote your stuff around bags, but that's a lousy product name. However, these bags look so useful for all the books, toys, and stuff necessary to make car-trips and play around the house more fun. I always liked to load up a bag of dolls and stuff to go out into the yard to play.
I think I'd pay about $14 for the second one, $12 for the first, but bear in mind that I'm a craftster so could make one for myself- if I couldn't I'd probably pay more. I'd call them Joey's Pouches, probably because of Sandi's suggestion!
I'd say somewhere in the $25-35 region.
As for names, there's been lots of good ones suggested already.
Umm.. I'll have a think.
For the sake of an entry, I will just state the price that I charge for a similar bag.... $22 :)
at the markets resently there were bags there while not the exact same but the same amount of time would have gone into it...they were priced and sold for $35-00...which i think is very reasonable...
i would call them
kit & k-boodle slings...as they remind me of a mix of the wild west and childhood memories...
They are great. I would say at least $25 esp for the designer fabric ones and a name...BagTrap, dunno! They will sell for sure!
I think they're very cute and would expect to pay $25. As for a name - how about Lug it!
I saw one exactly like the see dick and Jane tote at my local quilting store for $50
I was smitten with it as I am smitten with your version its so sweet and yes perfect for my lil book worm of a daughter who loves loves to read (well have books read to her, she pretends to read and points to each word and babbles in unintelligable baby talk) hahahaa
I wouldnt pay $50 as im a tad poor hahaha but would think around the $20-$30 mark would be more in my price range
I like the name "vintage book bags" says it all!
great giveaway, goodluck to all who enter!
My first entry ever!See Jane Smile!
I think RRP could be $24.95, or more if you decided to waterproof them on the outside with a clear vinyl or iron-on layer.
As for a brand name...
Totally Tote-able
Dick and Jane - They make me smile!
Ahhh, the memories!
I think it depends where you sell them - on Etsy around $20 US or privately in a posh boutique you could be looking at up to $40 US in NYC ..... and as for a name - 'Tot's tote?' or 'Tot's Travel Tote'? or 'Tote for Tots' ... hum I seem to be in a rut here!
Cass what a great idea - hope that you are having a great break. It is always hard to work out what to price things as - i would say $20 to $30 $A Hope that is of some help to you!
And a name - really like the hop-a-longs idea - so going with that them Pouch-a-roo, Skippy-mate
Hope that you had a great break away.
I love the cowboy one!
Hi Cass,
I would pay $20 minimum for one of these because they are so unique (material etc).
Some names to call them could be:
(They aren't great, but it's all I had - ha ha, sorry)
1. Kiddles Bag
2. The Snail Bag
3. The Hop, skip Carry bag
ha ha - I'm not sure.
I think you could easily charge about $30 for those! They're so cute, I've been loving the Dick and Jane fabric! Lovely!
I'm tagging you for a '6 unique things' game, so have fun!
I would say $20-25 US. Bag-a-Muffins, Kinder-Totes, Super Sacks, Kiddy Sacks? They are just adorable.
I was the first to comment but came back to see what others had written. First thing I discovered is that others are in areas where they would sell better. I am out in the country, small town Minnesota and my only comparison was local church bazaars. I have found that people often don't want to pay for the time one puts into an item and only think of the cost of materials. I have thought about making some similar projects to sell in a local gift shop but don't like the idea of giving away my time for free. So, I think I will make things and "gift" them to family and friends instead.
I would say $25 to $30 would be okay. I'm not good with names (which is why I ended up with a shop named by a five year old) but I like Tote-able
Michelle
Grüße! In honour of Blogtoberfest you should call it 'beutel des Kindes'. With such a fancy sounding name, people would surely pay $20+!
I think the bags look great.. I love the vintage reproduction fabric used.. I think my parents have some vintage Dick and Jane Books somewhere in thier horde of collectables.
I think they can sell well depending on your market... and how much your materials cost... I would say somewhere between $15 and $20 for the simpler bags and around $25 for those that have moer detail or mor expensive fabrics... and obviously depending on where you will be selling them...
as for a name what about the Spot bag? spot is the name of dick and jane's dog.."Spot the bag"?. or "Sally Bags" for the girly ones as Sally is the girl in the dick and jane books.
I'm sure somone will come up with a brilliant name to go with your brilliant bags.
H takes the train pencil case with him to school everyday and often uses his cape-ron to help me bake or play super heroes. so thank you again for the lovely kid swap treasures you sent him.
No idea about the names, but I think I'd pay about $20 for a nice bag for my child. Considering that he'll probably drag it through dirt and ruin it fairly quickly, that is about as much as I would pay.
hi
I'd probably pay $15-20.. Being a crafter I know how much time and the cost of the materials that go into it and unfortunately people dont pay a lot for us crafters time!
they remind me a of a mail man's satchel that you see in the 'musicals' from the 'olden days' (aka the 50's) so a messenger satchel perhaps?? they are cute and I too am a sucker for Dick & Jane!
hi diddly ho neighbourino. I think $15 seems to be the round about amount, as for names how about "tiny-tote" for tiny totts get it hehehehe! ....ok i'll go now
